Lagos Receives 507,000 Doses Of COVID-19 Vaccines

Lagos State, being the epicentre of the COVID-19 virus in Nigeria, has received the highest allocation of the AstraZeneca vaccine on Tuesday.

As several states across the country begin to confirm delivery of the vaccine, Lagos leads the allocation pack with 507,000 doses.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) received about 219,800 doses; Kaduna State got 180,000, with closely Katsina State, set to receive between 150,000 – 160,000 doses of the vaccine.

In other states, Ogun received a consignment of 100,000 doses, Nasarawa 61,000 doses; Ekiti 52,960 and Ondo 75,570, Plateau State 105,600 doses and Osun got 54,240 doses.

A statement released by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, confirming the delivery of the vaccine reads, “The first consignment of 507,000 Astra Zeneca COVID-19 COVAX vaccines provided by the Federal Government arrived in Lagos at 4a.m today (Tuesday).

“The vaccines have been transferred from the airport to our State cold chain facilities for safe storage and inventory management.

“The Federal Government Phase 1 rollout plan, which is targeting frontline and essential personnel, will be communicated in the next few days. Additional consignments are expected.

“Details of the vaccine rollout will be clearly articulated to the public by the Incident Commander, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who has inaugurated a multi-stakeholder COVID-19 Vaccine Access and Distribution Committee chaired by the Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi.”
