This comes at a bad time as Madrid are currently not in best of form having suffered an embarrassment of slipping out of the Super Cup and being dumped out of the Copa Del Rey by Segunda B side Alcoyano on Wednesday.

Zidane’s side have now gone three games without a win and are seven points behind neighbours Atletico Madrid who currently top the La Liga table with a game in hand.

Ahead of Madrid’s trip to Alaves on Saturday, assistant coach Davide Bettoni said, “I spoke to Zidane this morning, he’s feeling fine.”
