As clubs around the world seek to manage their way through a second wave of a global pandemic that has seen a surge in the numbers of infection reported, the Spanish football club on Friday announced that Real Madrid Coach, Zinedine Zidane has tested positive for the virus.
With this development the Madrid boss will have to be in isolation pending when he returns negative while assistant coach Davide Bettoni will be taking care of first-team affairs for this period.
This comes at a bad time as Madrid are currently not in best of form having suffered an embarrassment of slipping out of the Super Cup and being dumped out of the Copa Del Rey by Segunda B side Alcoyano on Wednesday.
Zidane’s side have now gone three games without a win and are seven points behind neighbours Atletico Madrid who currently top the La Liga table with a game in hand.
Ahead of Madrid’s trip to Alaves on Saturday, assistant coach Davide Bettoni said, “I spoke to Zidane this morning, he’s feeling fine.”
“We’re all in this together and we’ll do all we can to get three points.
“We had a good training session in preparation for tomorrow’s game, that’s what we wanted to see. We’re all working on the same thing and tomorrow is another opportunity to show we’re a unit and we’re going to do all we can to take three points.
“The team is hungry and focused on the game against Alavés. We’re ready to put in a good performance.
“I do my job as an assistant coach and I’m here to help Zidane. He makes the decisions. He won’t be with us physically but he’ll be there to support us during the game and bring his energy to the players and everyone else”.
