Carabao Cup Semi-Final Draw: Cavani’s Strike Set Up Manchester Derby

Manchester United left it late as two strikes from Edinson Cavani and Anthony Martial gave the visitor a 2-0 win over Everton to book their place in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup.

The win yesterday night saw Manchester United being drawn to host local rivals Manchester City in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made nine changes for the clash at Goodison Park and United left it late as Edinson Cavani opened the scoring with an outstanding strike in the 88th minute for his fourth goal for the club.

Anthony Martial doubled the lead in added time to earn United’s spot in the semi-finals.

This is the second season in succession that Manchester United will have a showdown with holders Manchester City in the semi-final round.

Tottenham will host Championship side Brentford in the second semi-final game to be played in a one-legged tie on January 5 or 6.

Manchester City will be bidding to win the trophy for a fourth year in succession and a sixth time in eight years. Pep Guardiola’s side who won last season’s final by beating Aston Villa booked their last-four place with a 4-1 victory over Arsenal on Tuesday.

The Carabao Cup final which was originally slated for February 28 has been pushed two months further in the hope that fans can attend the decider at Wembley Stadium on April 25.
