Herdsmen Attack 6 Benue Communities

Reports say some heavily armed gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen stormed not less than six communities in Benue State, attacking anything in sight.

It was learnt that the incident occurred on Monday while residents of the areas touched by the herdsmen were enjoying the public holiday declared by the Federal Government to mark Democracy Day.

Eyewitnesses disclosed that at least 10 people were feared dead while over 20 houses were razed.

According to The Telegraph, the hometown of a former governor of the state, Gabriel Suswam, was also attacked by the suspected herdsmen.

His former Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Joseph Anawan, revealed that corpses of the deceased persons have been deposited at the morgue at NKST Health Centre at Anyiin, headquarters of Logo Local Government Area of the state.

Monday’s attack came barely few hours to the dedication of the state to God by Governor Samuel Ortom over the poor security situation in the state organised by the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, in conjunction with the state government.
