Ogun Doctors Begin Warning Strike

Reports reaching us indicate that doctors in Ogun State under the umbrella of the National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners, have commenced a one-week industrial action.

According to a communiqué issued at the end of its emergency general meeting, the strike is to press home their demands.

The aggrieved doctors said they have explored all opportunities to get the attention of the state government on issues affecting the health system in the state, but nothing good came out their talks.

They explained further that stated that series of letters had been written to the state governor, Ibikunle Amosun, on the need to restructure health facilities; shortage of staff and relativity, but they were not given proper audience.

The association therefore directed its members to observe the warning strike.

In the communiqué signed by its chairman and secretary, Dr. Oladunni Adetola and Dr. Adetonwa Festus respectively, the body identified shortage of staff across all cadres of the health workers as one of their observations.

The association pointed out that no new recruitment has taken place in the last two to three years, despite the increasing demands on the sector.
