Lawyer of former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, Oscar Onwudiwe, says his client is suffering from a cancer of the breast.
Onwudiwe told Sahara Reporters in a press statement on Thursday that Diezani, who was arrested in the UK last week and released on bail, is receiving treatment for cancer in the UK.
According to him, Diezani started treating the disease while in office, stressing that “the health crisis has unfortunately exacerbated in recent times.”
The lawyer explained that his client underwent chemotherapy treatment last week and is scheduled to undergo surgery next week. He further disclosed that Diezani’s husband will fly to the UK soon to see his wife.
Since leaving Nigeria in May 2015, the former minister has not returned to the country. She was arrested last Friday along with other four persons by the UK’s National Crime Agency, NCA, for bribery and money laundering.
