Embattled governor of Nasarawa State, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, has gone to Abuja to meet with President Goodluck Jonathan, over move by the State House of Assembly to remove him from office, Leadership Newspaper reports.

Al-Mukura was served an impeachment notice by the Assembly, which is bent on impeaching him, just like his counterpart in Adamawa State, who was booted out of office on Tuesday.

The unsettled governor reportedly left the state capital, Lafia, in a hurry on Tuesday at about 4pm and zoomed to Abuja, ostensibly to pacify President Jonathan to intervene in the matter.

However, before leaving the state on Tuesday, Al-Makura held series of meetings with his aides and party officials intent upon seeing how the impeachment impasse can be surmounted.

“Before Al-Makura left for Abuja, notable traditional rulers in the state had converged at the guest house of the Emir of Lafia, Alhaji Isa Mustapha Agwai l, with a view to seeking their intervention on the matter.

“Informed sources also disclosed that a high-powered delegation of traditional rulers and other respected stakeholders in the state were expected to join Al-Makura in Abuja today so as to solicit President Jonathan’s intervention,” the paper said.
