A police corporal attached to the Kwara State Police Command, Yunus Muideen, has allegedly killed a former local government chairmanship aspirant of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, in the state, Femi Awoyale.
The cop, who was allegedly drunk, was said to have accidentally murdered the politician at a Valentine event held at a hotel in Oro community in Irepodun local government area of Kwara State. The unfortunate incident occurred on Friday at about 11:10pm.
The police officer was sent to the hotel to provide security at the show, but he allegedly ended up killing a fun-seeker.
Reports say the cop, who was said to be drunk, had earlier shot in the air after he woke up from sleep during the show, thinking a noise he heard while sleeping was from some trouble makers.
But after some time, he reportedly dozed off again, but this time, his rifle hit against the wall, and about two bullets were released, one of which hit the late politician on the chest. Before the deceased could be rushed to the hospital, he gave up the ghost.
The incident caused a mild protest in the town but police in the area quickly brought the situation under control.
