Sambo Slams Albani Zaria’s Assassination

Nigeria’s Vice-President, Namadi Sambo, has strongly criticized the killing of prominent Islamic scholar, Sheikh Muhammad Auwal Adam Albani, also known as Albani Zaria, by some gunmen in Zaria, Kaduna State, last week.

The vocal cleric was assassinated on Saturday night along with his wife while returning from a religious function in the ancient city.

In a statement signed by the Vice President’s Senior Special Adviser on Media, Umar Sani, on Monday, Namadi condemned the tragic death of Albani Zaria.

He said, “it is with a deep sense of shock and sadness that the Vice President, Arc Mohammed Namadi Sambo, received the sudden and tragic demise of Sheikh Muhammad Auwal Adam Albani and some members of his family.”

Sani added in the statement that, “the Vice President condemns in the strongest terms these senseless killings of innocent lives by mindless assassins who have no regard for the sanctity of human life.”

“Arc Sambo commiserates with the family of the deceased over this sorrowful and great loss” while imploring “members of the family of the deceased, his students and indeed the entire Ummah to have the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss and prays Almighty Allah to grant the soul of the departed Aljannat firdaus.”

Albani Zaria is known to be against the killings by Boko Haram members in the North.
