Zamfara Confirms Abduction Of Over 300 Schoolgirls In Jangebe

The Zamfara State government has confirmed the abduction of 300 school girls at Government Girls Secondary school in Jangebe, in Talata-Mafara Local Government Area of the state in the early hours of Friday.

This comes barely some days after gunmen kidnap boys from Kangara School for Niger state on February 17, 2021. Those abducted in Niger were yet to be released at the time of this recent incident.

According to the commissioner of Information, Hon. Sulaiman Tunau Anka, the bandits stormed the school during the wee hours of Friday and kidnapped the girls while others managed to escape and alerted the general public over the unfortunate incident.

He said the state government is working with security operatives to ensure the kidnapped victims are freed.

Police spokesman Mohammed Shehu said in a statement that “the Zamfara State Police Command in collaboration with the military have commenced a joint search and rescue operations with a view to rescuing the 317 students kidnapped by the armed bandits in Government Girls Science Secondary School Jangebe.”
