Bloodbath In Onitsha As Soldiers, IPOB Protesters Clash

There was pandemonium in Onitsha, Anambra State on Monday, May 30, 2016, when pro-Biafra protesters clashed with soldiers.

During the chaos, several persons were reportedly feared killed, including a military personnel.

Trouble started when men of the Nigerian Army tried to stop members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, in Onitsha, from celebrating 50th anniversary of the defunct Biafra republic, declared by late Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu on May 30, 1966, which led to the civil war then.

However, the anniversary celebration turned bloody when soldiers of the 312 Artillery Brigade confronted the IPOB members, who blocked major streets.

Efforts by the military to disperse the demonstrators were fruitless and it reportedly turned out bloody.

Several people were said to have suffered gunshot wounds during the unrest.
