Workers in Ekiti on Thursday began an indefinite industrial action over the non-payment of their salaries by the state government.

This move came after the expiration of the 48 hours given to the state government to meet their demands.

Chairman of the Trade Union Congress, TUC, in Ekiti State, Kolawole Olaiya, addressing newsmen in Ado-Ekiti, disclosed that he has directed his members to stay away from work.

He explained that his members are hungry because of the inability of the Governor Ayodele Fayose-led administration to pay their salaries. He described Ekiti has a failed state.

According to him, the prevailing shortfall of allocation from the Federation Account was not enough excuse for Fayose not to pay workers.

“Every government is created for the security and welfare of the people and it is criminal for any government not to pay its workers their salaries. A government that cannot pay for five months is a failed government,” Olaiya said.
