The crisis rocking the Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti over the death of some doctors from the hospital few weeks ago has finally been settled.
It was gathered that the Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, held a stakeholders’ meeting on Tuesday in Akure, where all those involved in the matter were present.
At the meeting, representatives of all medical and non-medical workers, traditional rulers from across the state and the Chief Medical Director, Dr Lawrence Majekodunmi Ayodele, aired their views at the Government House.
Fayose pleaded with all parties to allow peace return to the hospital.
The governor said it was unfortunate that since the death of some medical doctors in a car crash few weeks ago while going for a meeting of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) in Sokoto State, peace had eluded the hospital.
Fayose’s Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi, disclosed in a statement that after listening to all parties, he blamed Ayodele for not being sensitive to the doctors.
Spokesman of the aggrieved workers, Efe Asagba, claimed his colleagues were furious with the CMD because of the way he handled the death of the doctors.
He said, “Since the death of three medical doctors who were on their way to attend the NMA congress, our Chief Medical Director has not called the families of the deceased, he was not around when the victims were buried and has not been sympathetic to our plight.
“You can imagine that he was not around when the corpses were brought from Kaduna to Ekiti and did not send representatives.”
Defending himself, Ayodele explained that he was already in Sokoto for the NMA meeting when he heard about the accident and that he took permission from the Minister of Health to come down to Ekiti State.
He added that he however got security reports that some people were after his life and that it was based on that that he did not attend the ceremonies.
