Saints Stun Liverpool At St Mary’s

Liverpool lost a two-goal lead in the first half to lose against Southampton 2-3 on Sunday at St Mary’s in a Barclays Premier League game.

The Merseyside team went ahead in the 22nd minute through Philippe Coutinho’s superb finish, while Daniel Sturridge dazed the host three minutes later.

But the Saints fought hard and were rewarded with a penalty five minute into the second stanza of the match. Sadio Mane stepped in to take the spot kick, but could not put the ball in the back of the net as expected.

Southampton pressed on and the moment came in for them in the 64th minute when Mane made up for his earlier penalty miss.

Graziano Pelle struck for the Saints again in six minutes from time to level the score line, while Mane shocked the visitors two minutes later to snatch a dramatic win for his club.

Elsewhere, Tottenham was too hot for Bournemouth as they scored three unreplied goals at the White Hart Lane.

Spurs closed the gaps on the league leaders, Leicester, to five points with seven matches remaining.

In another game played on Sunday, Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle were held to a 1-1 draw by their local rival, Sunderland, at the St James’ Park.

Sunderland and Newcastle now have 26 and 25 points respectively and are sitting 18 and 19 on the league table.
