Herdsmen Kill 15 In Fresh Benue Attack

Some suspected Fulani herdsmen again invaded another village in Benue State on Thursday, March 17, after they rained terror on Agatu community, leaving many dead.

According to reports, no fewer than 15 people were feared dead in Thursday’s attack.

The latest incident reportedly occurred at Tombo in Buruku local government area of the state. The cattle rearers were said to have burnt down houses in the community.

They also shot sporadically, leaving making people to flee the village, reports say.

A source from the village told Vanguard that, “The situation in Tombo at the moment is scary and we are helpless, it’s as if we are in a war situation where the mission of the invaders is to occupy and take over our villages.

“It’s a pathetic situation because corpses are littering the community though one cannot give a specific number of the dead which should not be less than 15 but I know that the casualty figure could be huge because many have been wounded as bullets continue to fly around.

“The people are also burning down houses, farms and food stuff as they move into the villages in what looked like a well coordinated attack.”

Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, in Benue State, ASP Moses Yamu, while confirming the attack, disclosed that it took place at about 3pm, but he put the number of human casualty at seven.

Meanwhile, peace has returned to the community.
