Everton were beaten 2-1 at the Emirates in a late kick off match played on Saturday in the English Premier League, EPL.

The Gunners went two nil up with goals from Olivier Giroud in the 36th minute and Laurent Koscielny barely two minutes later.

But the Merseyside outfit pulled one back after a Ross Barkley’s shot was deflected by Gabriel Paulista’s foot.

The win catapulted Arsenal to the number one spot and would wait for the outcome of the Manchester derby on Sunday to determine if they will retain the position for more than 24 hours.

In an earlier EPL match on Saturday, Chelsea lost 2-1 at the Upton Park. Chelsea lost to their London neighbour.

Mauro Zarate put West Ham ahead 17 minutes into the match. But Gary Cahill cancelled the deficit 11 minutes into the second half.

Andy Carroll, who came in as a substitute in the second half, shocked the Blues with a goal just 11 minutes before time.

Nemanja Matic saw a red for a second yellow at 45 minutes, while Jose Mourinho was sent to the stand for protesting against Matic’s red at half time.

Chelsea now sit comfortably 15th on the log and the loss at Upton Park is their fifth in 10 games this season.
