Ikpeazu Recalls Sacked Non Indigene Civil Servants

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State has ordered the reinstatement of some non-indigene fired from the state civil service by his predecessor, Theodore Orji.

The workers on the Abia State payroll were disengaged from the service by Orji because they were not from the state. This action sparked criticisms back then.

Information reaching us shows that all the remaining 102 non-indigenes that hitherto lost their jobs in the state Secondary Education Board, SEMB, have been recalled and already paid their June salary.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Godwin Adindu, the gesture was in fulfilment of Ikpeazu’s electoral promise.

Adindu noted that 63 out of the 295 non-indigenes sacked at the Abia State Universal Basic Education Board, ASUBEB, have been cleared for reinstatement and would receive their July salary.

He added that the others would be absorbed as soon as they are cleared by the auditor-general of the local government.
