Wike Vows To Oust 22 APC Council Chairmen In Rivers

Rivers State governor-elect, Nyesom Wike, has threatened to remove the 22 council chairmen, who emerged winners in last Saturday’s local government elections in the state.

The council bosses were also sworn-in on Monday by the outgoing governor of the state, Rotimi Amaechi.

Speaking at a pre-inauguration lecture on Tuesday, Wike described Amaechi’s action as an act of impunity, stressing that a competent court of law had stopped the governor from holding the election.

Wike accused Amaechi of planning to use the council chairmen against his administration when he (Wike) is finally sworn-in on Friday, May 29, 2015.

He stated at the Astec Event Centre, Port Harcourt, the state capital, venue of the occasion, that “the outgoing governor charged the council chairmen while swearing them in to resist any attempt to dissolve them because Buhari would not support impunity.”

“Who is master of impunity when the court said don’t organise any election?” Wike asked, submitting that, “If I dissolve them, Buhari would support me because that is the height of impunity.”
