FG Upgrades 4 Colleges Of Education To Universities

Four Colleges of Education in the country have been upgraded to universities by the Federal Government.

This decision was taken at the Federal Executive Council meeting held on Wednesday in Abuja.

Briefing State House correspondents of the outcome of the meeting presided over by President Goodluck Jonathan, Minister of Education, Ibrahim Shekarau, disclosed that the institutions have been awarding degree programmes to students in the past three decades, but supervised by their affiliate universities.

Shekarau listed the affected schools as Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo (now Adeyemi University of Education, Ondo); Alvan Ikoku College of Education, Owerri, Imo State (now Alvan Ikoku University of Education, Owerri); Federal College of Education, Kano (now Federal University of Education, Kano); and Federal College of Education, Zaria, Kaduna (now Federal University of Education, Zaria).
