Dino Melaye ‘Slaps’ Smart Adeyemi At Tribunal

A National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Lokoja, Kogi State has upheld the victory of Senator Dino Melaye of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The Tribunal dismissed the petition filed by Senator Smart Adeyemi, a former President of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, challenging the election of Melaye at the poll held on March 28, 2015.

At the ruling on Monday, chairman of the Tribunal, Justice Akon Ikpeme, held that Adeyemi’s case lacked merit.

Justice Ikpeme ruled that the petitioner could not prove his case beyond a reasonable doubt.

Adeyemi contested in the Kogi West Senatorial district poll under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and lost the election to Melaye.

He claimed the election was plagued with irregularities, claiming further that Melaye never participated in his party’s primary.
