Suswam, Deputy Survive Ghastly Road Mishap

Benue State governor, Gabriel Suswam, on Friday morning, cheated death when his convoy was involved in a ghastly motor accident.

The incident occurred at the Angbaaye village on the busy Makurdi-Gboko road.

His deputy, Steven Lawani, was also involved in the crash, though he was unhurt.

It was gathered that Suswam was on his way to the commissioning of a road project at Mbatierev in Gboko local government area of the state when the incident happened.

His deputy, on his part, was going to commission a tree planting project at Wannune in Tarka local government. Both were on the same entourage when the accident took place.

It was learnt that a commercial vehicle had a head-on collision with one of the vehicles on the governor’s convoy. The driver of the vehicle was allegedly on a top speed when he rammed into them.

About 15 persons were injured in the crash, including security aides, drivers on the convoy of the governor. Also, passengers in the commercial vehicle were seriously injured.

Meanwhile, the governor has directed that victims of the road mishap should be taken to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi for urgent treatment.
