Speaker of Taraba State House of Assembly, Josiah Kente, has vehemently condemned the recent attacks in Taraba villages, describing them as wicked and irrational.
Kente said the violent attacks on Ando Igba, Gidan-Waya and Sondi communities of Wukari Local Government Area of the state were uncalled for and urged the federal and state governments to ensure that the culprits are brought to book, as well as their sponsors.
Some hoodlums had stormed Wukari, killing more than 20 people, including children and women.
Speaking via a statement issued on the incidents, the Speaker expressed disappointment in the killing of children and women in the attacks.
“I must say that I am highly disappointed by this unfortunate act that led to the killing of women and children, whose only crime is that they belong to a particular religion or tribe. I therefore call on both arms of government to send more security personnel of unquestionable character to protect the innocent and defenceless people in the affected areas,” Kente disclosed in the statement.
The Speaker urged residents of the affected communities to maintain law and order, promising that the government would ensure calm in the areas.
