Army Bans Vehicles In Maiduguri

“All vehicular movement within the Maiduguri city is banned from Monday, 28th to Wednesday, 30th July, 2014,” the Nigerian Army in Borno has declared. This came after the military claimed it had an intelligent report that members of Boko Haram sect have planned to attack worshippers during the end of Ramadan celebration.

“The report at the disposal of the security agencies reveals that the terrorist have perfected plans to launch multiple bomb explosions in Maiduguri metropolis,” a statement issued by the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Muhammad Dole, revealed.

Dole said further in the release that the insurgents plan to use ”vehicles such as Volkswagen Golf, Pick Up vans, Keke NAPEP, Motorcycles and Bicycles” to attack sallah praying grounds, markets and other public places.”

“Members of the general public are advised to perform their Eid-il Fitri prayer at prayer grounds nearest to their residences. While necessary security measures are being put in place, people are requested to comply fully with this ban as defaulters will be severely sanctioned,” the statement warned.

The military also asked members of the public “to report any suspicious movement of persons or vehicles to the nearest security agencies.”
