Netherlands Humble Spain In 5-1 Thriller

The Dutch started off their 2014 FIFA World Cup campaign in Brazil with a classy game against Spain, the team that denied them victory at the finals of the same competition four years ago in South Africa.

The Spanish scored first via a Xavi Alonso’s spot kick in the first 30 minutes, but Van Persie’s stunning header before end of half cancelled the deficit for the Netherlands.

However, in the second half of the match, Spain was in for more trouble ahead as the Dutch virtually dictated the pace of the game. Van Persie and Arjen Robben completed the demolition with a brace each to finish the opening game by 5-1.
