A blast occurred at the Rivers State High Court in Ahoada East local government area of the state on Monday. This is the second time in six months that explosion would be happening at the same High Court. The first one occurred on January 7, 2014.
In the latest incident, which happened on Monday morning, no life was lost or any person injured, but some documents were lost in the explosion.
The roof of the court was burnt as well as some files.
It was gathered that a dynamite may have been planted at the court premises by a yet-to-be identified person, whose intention is not yet known.
The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Tunde Ogunsakin, who confirmed the incident in a statement signed by the State Assistant Police Public Relations, Grace Iringe-Koko, disclosed that the command has reinforced security within the court premises.
He added that there was no evidence of explosion, shockwaves, or bang, stating further in the sample already collected from the scene of the blast, no trace of IED (Improvised Explosive Device) was found.
However, the police chief noted that the State Criminal Investigation Department and the police bomb squad are working to fish out the perpetrators of the act.
