Early Morning Explosion Causes Panic In Abuja

A blast in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, on Thursday morning caused a major panic in the city.

Before now, there had been two separate bomb blasts in Abuja in the last two months which killed over 100 persons.

Residents of Kurudu, Jikoyi and other adjoining areas of the city were terrified by a loud bang on Thursday morning, which shook their windows, and thought that suspected members of Boko Haram group had struck again, today being Democracy Day in Nigeria.

However, findings made by Aproko247 confirmed that the explosion was a controlled one aimed at bringing down a rock that obstructed a road construction in the area. We gathered that a new road is being constructed from Karishi to Apo, in Abuja.

Dynamites were used to break the rock in order to allow construction workers to carry out their duties.

Residents who spoke with our correspondent however disclosed that they were not informed by authorities that such action would be carried out today. They pointed out that under normal circumstances, residents of the city should have been well informed of the blast in order not to create the unnecessary panic today’s explosion caused among inhabitants of Kurudu.
