There are strong indications that Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Adeyemi Ikuforiji, has begun underground moves to actualize his dream of becoming the next governor of the state.
Sources well informed of his activities told Aproko247 that the Speaker has now intensified his gubernatorial ambition.

“As soon as [Bola] Tinubu (a former governor of the state and a National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC) disclosed that it was the turn of Lagos East Senatorial District to produce the next governor of the state, the Speaker became confident that his chance of succeeding Governor [Babatunde Raji] Fashola (the incumbent governor) is high,” one of the sources at the Lagos Assembly told our reporter.

“The Speaker officially told members of the Assembly that he would be running for the exalted position in Lagos. He said this during a breakfast with them (Lagos lawmakers),” another source told Aproko247. We learnt that the meeting was held at his residence in Ikeja on Tuesday.

It was also divulged to this magazine that Ikuforiji solicited the supports of the lawmakers in achieving his aspiration. Also, some journalists covering the Lagos Assembly were earlier urged to rally round the Speaker when he officially declares his intention to the general public. This appeal was made to the Correspondents last week by the Assembly spokesman, Segun Olulade.

“Consultations are presently going on and in no time, the Speaker will openly declare his intention,” a source said.

“He was in Epe this week to have talks with some monarchs in the town. The Speaker is seeking their supports too since he is from that Senatorial District. Ikuforiji was in Epe to meet with the family of late [Michael] Otedola, who died some days ago. He used the opportunity to speak with them,” we were told by one of our sources.
