Kwara Police Command has arrested 15 suspected thugs allegedly intending to burn the family house of an All Progressives Congress, APC, chieftain in the state, Abubakar Kawu Baraje. The suspects were paraded on Friday by the police in Ilorin, the state capital.
Addressing newsmen on the development, the Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, Ambrose Aisabor, disclosed that the accused persons were nabbed after a distress call was received on Wednesday that hoodlums were about to set ablaze the family house of Baraje in Baboko area of Ilorin.
Furthermore, Aisabor explained that the suspects were intercepted and an exchange of gunfire ensued, which left three people injured and about 14 vehicles destroyed.
They were later arrested by the police and dangerous weapons recovered from them.
Baraje was the former National Chairman of the defunct new Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, which broke out from the mainstream PDP in August 2013.
