Renewed Benue Clash Leaves 5 Dead

A clash between suspected Fulani herdsmen and Tiv farmers reared its ugly head again on Friday in Benue State. It was reported by the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, that the latest attacks occurred in three communities; Tse Chembe, Ifer and Tse-Gundu, in Logo local government area of the state.

Eyewitnesses claimed no fewer than five persons died in the attacks that lasted six hours, while the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Daniel Ezeala, informed NAN that only two persons lost their lives.

“One group came through Ikapa-Tse Gundu road to attack Chembe village. The other group emerged from a farm route and came out at Achive, where they mounted a road block along Anyiin,” a media aide to the state governor, Gabriel Suswam, Joseph Anawah, narrated to NAN.

This latest development comes barely a week after a peace treaty brokered by the DIG (Operations) of the Nigeria Police Force, Michael Zoukomo, between leaders of Fulani herdsmen and Tiv/Agatu farmers.
