New Constitution To Be Ready In July–Reps

The House of Representatives has disclosed that the new Nigerian Constitution would be available by July 2014. This information was made public by the Chairman, House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Zakari Mohammed, on Sunday in Kwara State.
Mohammed noted that the delay in making the country’s Constitution ready was as a result of wide consultations being carried out by the House.

He stressed that the process of amending a country’s Constitution was cumbersome.

Mohammed explained that, “we are looking at the month of June or July as when we are going to have a clean copy of the new constitution for Nigeria.

“For what we did in the House of Representatives, we went to the 360 Federal Constituencies and, as much as possible, we were able to gather the views of the people.

“What we have reported is exactly what we pushed forward for them, and what we are saying is that at the end of the day, we are going to have a constitution that is workable for the Nigerian people.”
