NSCDC Winning War Against Vandals—Abolurin

The Corps Chief Executive of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Ade Abolurin, has disclosed that the Corps has been recording successes in its Commands across the country in their renewed fight against vandals.

In a statement issued by the Corps recently, the Civil Defence boss stated that reports from some of its Commands have shown tremendous improvements in the fight against vandalism, a menace that almost wrecked the country.

The Corps was created by an Act of parliament of 2003 as amended in 2007 and saddled with responsibility of protecting the country’s Critical Infrastructure National Assets such as petroleum pipelines, gas installations among others.

Abolurin noted that in Ondo State Command, the anti-vandal unit intercepted and seized 78 kegs of 25 litres and 50 drums loaded with adulterated fuel from suspected vandals. In the course of the operation, three suspects were arrested and two cars seized from them. Also, 70 kegs of 25 litres of adulterated diesel were received from the vandals in the Ore axis of Odigbo Local Government Area of Oyo State.

In the same vein, two suspected vandals were arrested by the anti-vandals squad of the Cross River State Command, the suspects have since been charged to court and they are to face the full wrath of the law.

The success story continued unabated in Akwa Ibom State as two suspects arrested by the personnel of the command were charged to court and already convicted. They are to spend five years jail each.

Similarly, another suspects arrested by the Oyo State Command have been jailed for five years.

Also, three suspects were arrested by the anti-vandal squad of Delta State Command a truck loaded with 33,000 litres of PMS was impounded. The suspects are undergoing interrogation.

Meanwhile, the Corps has reiterated its readiness to continue in this fight until total victory is achieved.

However, Abolurin has charged vandals of government infrastructure to desist from such act, emphasising that they should be ready to face the full wrath of the law.

He reiterated that the Corps will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that government’s effort in bringing about a new lease of life for its people in providing genuine social amenities and national infrastructure is not truncated by a few disgruntled and selfish individuals who are driven by greed and criminal tendencies to acquire wealth illegitimately.
