Anambra Assembly Confirms Ex-Dep Gov, 18 Others As Commissioners

A former deputy governor of Anambra State, Chinedu Emeka, has been confirmed by the state House of Assembly as the designated Commissioner for Water and Public Utilities. Emeka, who served under the administration of Chinwoke Mbadinuju, was confirmed by the lawmakers on Thursday along with 18 others.

The state governor, Willie Obiano, had sent the list of his 19 Commissioner-nominees to the Assembly for confirmation as demanded by the Constitution.

They were approved at the plenary on Thursday by the legislators after a screening committee set up by the Assembly, headed by Chukwudi Orizu, presented its report to the House.

Callistus Ilozumba and Azuka Okeke, who served under the last administration of Peter Obi as Commissioners for Works and Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs respectively, retained their positions.

Also confirmed were Tony Nnacheta ( Commissioner for Sports), Kate Emenugha (Commissioner for Education), Anali Chude (Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice), Gringory Obi (Commissioner for Finance), Florence Chinwuba (Commissioner for Housing), Solomon Chukwu (Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget), Ifeatu Onyejeme (Commissioner for Trade and Commerce) and Anthony Onyimah (Commissioner for Information).

Others are Ricky Chukwumelu (Commissioner for Women Affairs), Chukwuma Mbonu (Commissioner for Transport), Evaristus Ubah (Commissioner for Environment), Stella Onuorah (Commissioner for Land), Norbert Obi (Commissioner for Special Duties), Joseph Akabuike (Commissioner for Health), Nnamdi Meko (Commissioner for Agriculture) and Osita Obinwankwo (Commissioner for Science and Technology).
