The newly installed Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Saliu Olasupo Adetunji, Aje Ogungunniso 1, has vehemently kicked against the recent alleged attack on officials of the National Population Commission, NPC, by some thugs at the Ibadan North West LGA of Oyo State.

Speaking on Monday after the monthly meeting of the Olubadan-in-Council held at his Popoyemoja, Ibadan Palace, the monarch, who spoke through the Otun Olubadan, High Chief Lekan Balogun, said it was wrong to attack government officials going about with their lawful duties.

He noted that, “Some of the residents were also running away from the commission’s field officers and not obliging them with answers to questions directed at them by the NPC officials. These were parts of the obstacles being experienced by the commission’s staff on the field.

“I hope is not true. They have no right asking for money or anything for them (officials) to be counted. The idea of head count is to ensure that government can provide for all the people in the country and facilities that may be needed.

“So, if the idea is to help in providing these, how would they be attacking those who are carrying out the exercise. I hope is not true?”

The Olubadan advised his subjects to “cooperate with the official in the interest of the citizens’ well-being and promote the understanding of the population of our country.”
