2023: Tinubu Wins APC Presidential Ticket

The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, has been declared winner of the party’s presidential primary held at Eagles Square, Abuja on Wednesday.

The former Lagos State governor who is now officially the flag bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2023 general election, will challenge Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, Peter Obi of the Labour Party and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party

Tinubu scored a total of 1,271 votes to defeat his closest rivals, ex-minister Rotimi Amaechi and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo. Amaechi polled 316 votes while Osinbajo scored 235 votes.

Eight aspirants had earlier stepped down and asked their supporters to vote for Tinubu, while Osibajo had only one aspirant stepped down for him.

Coming in fourth position is Senate President Ahmad Lawan with 152 votes, Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello had 47 votes followed by Cross Rivers State governor Ben Ayade who polled 37 votes. Former minister of science and technology Ogbonnaya Onu had one vote.

Ebonyi State Governor Dave Umahi scored 38 votes. Senator Ahmed Sani Yerima scored four votes, former minister of state for education Emeka Nwajiuba scored one vote while Pastor Tunde Bakare of the Citadel Global Community Church, former Imo State governor Rochas Okorocha, Tein Jack-Rich and Ike-Obasi Mokelu had no votes.

Tinubu in his victory speech commended those who stepped down for him and thanked his contenders and delegates, noting that he held no grudges against anyone who didn’t support him.
