Building Collapses In Lagos, Kills Pupils, Headmaster

A three-storey building housing a private school, warehouses and residential apartments collapsed on Wednesday morning, leading to the death of a dozen persons mostly pupils of the school.

The unfortunate incident happened on Massey Street in the Ita-Faaji area of Lagos State at about 10:25 am today.

However, more than two scores of persons mostly children from the private school have been rescued alive and are receiving treatment at a nearby general hospital.

Information from the site of the scene revealed that many kids are still trapped in the rubble, while efforts are being made to rescue them alive.

It was gathered that the headmaster of the private school, who was first rescued alive from the wreckage by the first responders, later died while receiving medical attention.

Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, who rushed to the scene of the unfortunate incident, promised to get to the root of the matter.

He called for calm while also promising to close down illegal schools operating in the vicinity.

His deputy, Mrs Idiat Adebule, who was at the hospital where the victims were taken to, assured that the state government would do everything possible to ensure they are well attended to.
