Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State has sacked the Chairman, Lagos Board of Internal Revenue and Chief Executive of Lagos Internal Revenue Service, LIRS, Olufolarin Ogunsanwo, barely 11 months after he appointed him.
Ogunsanwo has now handed over to the Director, Tax Audit, Mrs Akintola Bolaji.
An internal memo conveying his departure from the agency was tagged “retirement.”, but those in the tax office stressed that it was just a way of ‘honouring’ him.
In the memo dated August 26 and signed by J. Aina, Board Secretary, it was stated that Ogunsanwo was proceeding on retirement from August 25, 2016.
It was alleged that Ogunsanwo could not account for about N4.2 billion was belonging to the LIRS.
According to SaharaReporters, this earned him a query from the governor, who was bitter about the development and the LIRS boss’ response to the query.
It was said that Ambode informed Ogunsanwo to proceed on compulsory leave pending the conclusion of investigations into the sum unaccounted for.
According to reports, Ogunsanwo returned the sum of N1.2 billion during investigation. His decision to cooperate with the investigators was a major reason the government spared him the embarrassment of being exposed.
