Explosion Kills One In Yobe

A blast, which occurred on Wednesday morning along Potiskum road in Damaturu, Yobe State capital, has claimed at least one live.

The explosion was initially mistaken by residents of the area to be an attack from the Boko Haram terrorists’ group, but it was later confirmed to have occurred at a welder’s shop.

One soldier was critically wounded in the accidental explosion close to the roundabout in the area.

It was learnt that one petrol hawker close to the scene of the explosion was also wounded in the blast.

An eyewitness claimed that the welder’s body was shattered from the heated pipe which also hit the soldier who was monitoring the work.

It was said that troops from Goniri in Yobe State had brought a pipe to be welded to increase the height of the antenna on one of their Hilux cars to the welder.

The unfortunate incident occurred while the welder was working on the job at about 10:30am.

Meanwhile, the injured victims have been taken to the General Sani Abacha Specialist Hospital Damaturu.
