ISIS Appoints New Boko Haram Leader

Abu Musab al-Barnawi

A new leader has been appointed for the Boko Haram terrorists group, which has its stronghold in north east Nigeria.

Boko Haram, which pledged its allegiance to the dreadful Islamic State (ISIS) jihadist group, now has Abu Musab al-Barnawi as its new leader.

Al-Barnawi replaces Abubakar Shekau, whose whereabouts has remained unknown and a source of controversy.

The Nigerian military claimed it killed the wanted terrorist during a gun battle, while videos purportedly released by him have cast doubts on the military’s claims.

In the latest issue of an IS magazine, Abu Musab al-Barnawi was featured as the new commander of Boko Haram.

In a video clip released in January 2015, al-Barnawi called himself as the spokesman for Boko Haram. This was before the Nigeria-based jihadist group pledged allegiance to IS.
