President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, NSCIA, Sa’ad Abubakar, who doubles as the Sultan of Sokoto, has declared Wednesday, July 6, 2016, as the Eid el-Fitr day in Nigeria.
The Sultan, while making the announcement on Monday, explained that the new moon of Shawwal had not been sighted anywhere in Nigeria.
According to him, Muslims in the country should continue with the Ramadan fast on Tuesday and observe the eid prayers on Wednesday.
Eid el-Fitri celebrations are used to mark the end of the one month-long Ramadan fast all over the world.
On Sunday, the NSCIA had urged every Muslim in Nigeria to look out for the new moon between Sunday and Monday for the Eid el-Fitr.
