Ajegunle Taxi Driver Docked For Beating Police

A taxi driver based in the Ajegunle area of Lagos State, Iseuru Ekpe, has been dragged before an Apapa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly beating up a policeman.

Ekpe was arraigned on Friday for an alleged unlawful assault.

According to the prosecutor, Inspector Tony Elibeh, the accused committed the offence on June 13 at Nosamu Street, Ajegunle, Apapa, Lagos.

Elibeh said that the accused assaulted the police officer, Femi Ademola, while he was carrying out his lawful duty.

He alleged that the complainant stopped the accused to interrogate him on why he was driving recklessly, but allegedly started throwing punches at him.

The prosecutor said the said offence contravened the provisions of Sections 171 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Titus Abolarinwa, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum, while the matter was adjourned till July 6 for mention.
