Obaigbena Fires 13 Protesting ThisDay Staff

Publisher of ThisDay newspaper, Nduka Obaigbena, has sacked the 13 workers who threatened him with an industrial action over the non-payment of their 12 months’ salaries.

The affected members of staff are from the editorial department of the popular journal’s office in Abuja.

In a memo issued on Tuesday, June 7, 2016, to Obaigbena, who is also the Chairman and Editor-in-Chief of the paper, the workers, mainly senior staff, threatened to embark on an initial strike from June 12 to 19 before declaring a total strike afterwards if their demands are not met before June 10, 2016.

However, things turned the other way when Obaigbena ordered the termination of the appointments of the 13 angry employees.

The affected members of staff sacked by the newspaper boss are Patrick Ugeh, Tobi Soniyi, James Emejo, Olawale Ajimotokan, Senator Iroegbu, Omololu Ogunmade, Paul Obi, Godwin Omoigui, Onyebuchi Ezigbo, Ndubusi Francis, Dele Ogbodo, Damilola Oyedele and Chineme Okafor.
