Hard Times Hit Mike Adenuga As Glo Offices Shut

These are definitely the best of times for billionaire businessman, Mike Adenuga. It seems he is moving from one problem to another.

On Wednesday, May 11, 2016, officials of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS, were at his company’s headquarters in Lagos to seal up the place.

The FIRS officials said the telecommunications company, Globacom Limited, has failed to remit N24.3 billion in Value Added Tax, VAT, it apparently collected on behalf of the government from its subscribers.

On every recharge card purchased by Glo users, a 5 per cent VAT is charged, which is supposed to be remitted to the FIRS.

It was learnt that Glo was given a six-week notice by the FIRS, it failed to act accordingly.

On Wednesday, FIRS officials, led by the Director of Enforcement, Emeka Obiagwu, directed his men to seal off all the workstations of Globacom such as the Globacom Towers, located at Mike Adenuga Close,   GloWorld, located at Adeola Odeku, and the service station at 17, Saka Tinubu Street, all on Victoria Island, Lagos.

At the Mike Adenuga Towers, it took the efforts of the top officials of the company to calm the members of staff, who were irritated by the order that they should vacate. The place was subsequently put under locks and keys.
