GOC Convoy Attacked In Bama, One Soldier Killed

Not less than a soldier was killed on Tuesday when the convoy of Acting General Officer Commanding, GOC, 7 Division Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Victor Ezugwu, was attacked by suspected members of Boko Haram group.

It was disclosed by the Nigerian Army that the unfortunate incident occurred at about 8:30am on Tuesday in Bama, Borno State.

The GOC was on a visit to troops in the town when his convoy was ambushed by the terrorists, who have been carrying out deadly attacks in north east for years now.

Army spokesman, Col Sani Usman said in a statement that apart from one soldier lost in the ambush, two others were injured.

He said the convoy was “able to clear the ambush, killing some of the terrorists and recovered vehicle and weapons from them.”

He listed the items recovered from the insurgents to include “a Toyota Hilux vehicle, 2 AK-47 rifles and several ammunitions.”

Usman noted that “the Acting GOC has continued his operational visit to Bama, while the body of the late soldier and the wounded have been evacuated to Maiduguri.”

He said the “Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai has also spoken with the GOC.”

“The Nigerian Army wish to reiterate its unalloyed commitment and determination to continue to clear the remnants of the Boko Haram terrorists wherever they might be hiding,” Usman said in the statement.
