Road marshals have been directed to be prepared for the enforcement of the speed limit device in the country.

This order was given by Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Boboye Oyeyemi, when he visited men and officers of the Kaduna Sector Command on Wednesday.

Oyeyemi noted that the Federal High Court judgment last week, which granted the FRSC the mandate to enforce the use of the speed limit device in the country, has paved way the Corps to go ahead with the enforcement.

He told the Command the legal hurdle has been cleared and that President Muhammadu Buhari has given his approval for the enforcement of the speed device.

Oyeyemi noted that a public hearing was held to orientate the people on the importance of the device.

He said the Corps is “just waiting for the House of Representative’s report before we commence enforcement.”

“We need to cut down the speed of vehicles and any way we can do this should be a welcome development.

“We need to get it right because losing the active group of our population is not acceptable,” Oyeyemi stressed.

The FRSC boss pointed out that 50 per cent of crashes in the country were speed related, a development he is worrisome to the President.

“The government has shown its commitment, we must justify this trust by reducing road crashes, which is our major mandate,” he disclosed.

He urged all sector commands across the country to step up enlightenment campaigns in motor parks, mosques, churches and public gatherings against overloading, over speeding and non usage of seat belts.
