The Nigerian Senate has begun process of amending the Code of Conduct Bureau Act and that of Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015.

This move is already being speculated to be a calculated attempt by the upper chamber of the National Assembly to frustrate the ongoing trial of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, at the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, for alleged false declaration of assets.

At the resumption of plenary on Tuesday after two weeks of recess, eight bills were presented for deliberations, including the two earlier mentioned above, but six passed through the first reading.

Though the proposed amendment of the two Acts did not reflect on the Order Papers that had six presentations of proposed bills, however, the Chief Whip, Senator Bala Ibn N’Allah, while introducing them, disclosed that these two bills be considered for amendment.
