Lawmaker representing Ibadan North East/South East Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Adedapo Lam Adesina, has again put smiles on the faces of his constituents.

The young and suave legislator, who is loved by many in Ibadan and in Oyo State in general, held an epoch making event in Ibadan tagged ‘Omo Oloore Empowerment Scheme 2016’, where he gave out different professional equipment to members of his constituents.

The amiable politician and initiator of the ‘Omo Oloore’ brand, held the event on Thursday, April 7, 2016, at the Command Day Primary School Field Iwo Road, Ibadan.

Part of the items given out to about 350 beneficiaries were sewing machines, grinding machines, Bajaj tricycles and motorcycles worth N30 million.

The First phase of the Scheme with emphasis on Entrepreneurship commenced months ago with rigorous in-house training at the Honourable members’ two constituency offices and practical sessions at designated offices of trainers from the Nigerian Union of Tailors (NUT), National Society of Professional Tailors (NSPT), Amalgamated Commercial Motorcycle Riders and Owners Association of Nigeria (ACOMORAN), National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and Pepper and Corn Millers Grinding Association (PCMGA).

Speaking at the event, Lam Adesina, who recently supported 250 traders with financial aid, said the Empowerment Scheme is in partial fulfilment of his campaign promises to the good people of Ibadan North East/ South East Federal Constituency.

“My commitment to reducing the poverty index within my people is unwavering. The government at all levels cannot possibly employ everyone in gainful employment so the need to encourage entrepreneurship and empower people at regular intervals.

“As part of my legislative duties, I co-sponsored a motion with the House Leader on declaring a state of emergency on unemployment among the Youth and I am committed to bringing succour to my constituents in every legitimate way possible,” he stated.

Beneficiaries who were widely selected across the constituency from youth organizations, Community Development Council (CDC), religious and community leaders, political parties, pressure groups and trade unions and personally screened by the federal legislator to confirm their eligibility as bona-fide constituents all showered encomiums on ‘Omo Oloore’ describing him as a trail blazer and a role model other public office holders should emulate.

Representatives of NUT from Ibadan South East LG and NSPT in Ibadan North East LG both hailed Hon. Adesina in separate remarks on his distinct approach to tackling the menace of unemployment in our society, promising to play supervisory roles in monitoring the performance growth of the beneficiaries.

In the same vein Political and Religious Leaders thanked the ‘Omo Oloore’ proponent for always putting them and other stakeholders into consideration in his decision making process.

The lawmaker concluded by stressing that, “The era of just giving empowerment or grants for business without the rudiments of business management is gone.

“None of you should think of selling this equipment because we have put in place a monitoring and evaluation mechanism which will follow up all beneficiaries and your business activities. This is why you have been trained on necessary guidelines, how to make a success of this opportunity and become economically independent.”
