Police To Introduce Stun Guns

In a bid to reduce cases of accidental discharges by its men, the Nigeria Police has concluded plans to introduce the use of stun guns.

Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, revealed at the Commissioners’ of Police Conference held in Abuja on Wednesday.

Arase explained that with the use of stun guns, persons who resist arrest and behave violently can be shot at without causing grievous bodily harm. He further said monitoring teams have been put in place to watch over and report errant officers for the required punishment to be meted.

At the conference, the country’s chief cop expressed concerns over the high rate of kidnappings nationwide, cattle rustling, armed robbery and other highly organised crimes.

He said, “As strategic police managers, the task of assuring the safety of citizens of this great nation is not only sacred, it is one that we must consistently dedicate ourselves to in the passionate and optimal manner.
