A court of appeal has ordered the swearing-in of the immediate past Managing Director of Diamond Bank, Alex Otti, as governor of Abia State.
This followed a ruling on Thursday, December 31, 2015, in favour of the former banker turned politician.
Otti contested the governorship election in Abia State in April 2015, but his opponent, Okezie Ikpeazu of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was declared winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
But Otti, who flew the flag of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, at the April poll, first headed to the Election Petition Tribunal to declare him winner of the election. He lost at the Tribunal, which forced him to go to the Court of Appeal, which has now upturned the judgement of the Tribunal.
Ikpeazu has been ordered by the court to vacate the office.
