Senate To Resume Screening Next Tuesday

The screening of ministerial nominees sent to the Senate by President Muhammadu Buhari will continue on October 27, 2015, the upper legislative chamber of the National Assembly has said.

On Thursday, October 22, 2015, the senior lawmakers questioned five of the nominees and deferred that of the former Vice Chancellor, University of Ibadan, Prof. Isaac Adewole, a ministerial nominee from Osun State, till next week.

Prof Adewole was earlier scheduled to be grilled on Thursday, but the Senate, after screening the five candidates today, announced that the university don’s questioning will take place next week.

Those screened on Thursday were former Governor of Rivers State, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers); former Speaker, Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Heineken Lopkobiri (Bayelsa); Claudius Omoyele Daramola (Ondo); Baba Shehun Mustapha (Bornu) and Ocholi Enojo James (Kogi).

This is the second week running the Senate began the screening of the nominees as stipulated by the Nigerian Constitution.
