CBN Releases Names Of States Given Bailout Funds

The names of 19 state governments given the Federal Government bailout have been released by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, the agency in charge of its disbursement.

According to the country’s apex bank, which released the names on Friday, the 19 states were the ones which applied for the money out of the 36 states of the federation.

The bailout became necessary when some states complained of not having enough money to pay salaries of their workers, and the resolution of the National Economic Council, NEC, to make the money available to the affected states, spokesman of the CBN, Ibrahim Mu’azu explained.

According to the list, the states are Ekiti, Imo, Ebonyi, Ogun, Plateau, Nassarawa, Sokoto, Edo and Oyo.

Others include Kwara, Zamfara, Osun, Niger, Bauchi, Gombe, Abia, Adamawa, Ondo, and Kebbi.

The package has a 20-year repayment tenure for all states, except Ogun State, which opted for a 10 years.
